Working through a lesson

A course is a list of modules, and each module holds lessons. The course page shows that outline; choosing a lesson opens it in a reader over the top of the page.

Opening a lesson

Choose any lesson in the outline. Modules collapse and expand, so you can see what is coming without losing your place.

A course that is a single lesson — usually a single video — opens straight into it rather than making you click an outline of one.

Moving around

  • Next and Previous move through the course in order.
  • The counter — 4 of 22 — tells you where you are.
  • Close returns you to the outline, which is also where your progress is shown.

You do not have to go in order. The outline stays available and you can jump to anything you can open.

When a lesson counts as done

It depends on what the lesson asks of you.

  • A lesson with nothing to submit — a video, a reading — is complete once you have been through it. Moving on counts: you went past it deliberately.
  • A lesson with questions is complete when you have answered them.

Every lesson counts towards your progress, not only the ones with questions in them. Reading something is progress through the course, and a bar that ignored it would under-report what you have actually done.

Documents and links

Some lessons carry a file to download or links to read elsewhere. They appear with the lesson, under the content. A link to another site opens in a new tab so you do not lose the lesson.

Reflections and comments

Where a lesson invites a written response, there is a box for it at the bottom. What you write there is kept with your work on the course, and whoever runs the course can read it and reply.

If a lesson will not open

Two reasons, and the outline says which:

  • A padlock with no explanation — the course is not open to you. Check you are enrolled.
  • “Opens in 5 days” or a date — the course releases its modules over time and this part has not arrived yet. See A course that opens in stages.
