Enrolling yourself in a course

Some courses you can join yourself. Others are by invitation, and somebody adds you. The course page tells you which kind you are looking at.

Joining a course

  1. Open the course. Its page shows what it covers, how long it is, and what it costs if anything.
  2. Look for Enroll in the Course information panel.
  3. Choose it. If you are not signed in, you are asked to sign in or create an account at that point — you do not have to go away and come back.
  4. If the course has a price, you are asked for payment. See Paying for a course.

Once you are enrolled, the course information panel is replaced by the course itself: the outline becomes clickable and your progress appears.

If there is no Enroll button

There are four reasons, and the page says which one applies.

The course is by invitation

Its enrollment line reads something other than “Anyone”. Somebody has to add you — an instructor, an administrator at your organisation, or an invitation link sent to you. If you were expecting to be added, ask them.

The course is full

You will see Course full beside the enrollment line. The course is open, there is simply no room. Places sometimes free up, and whoever runs the course can raise the limit, so it is worth asking.

The course is not open yet, or has closed

Courses can have dates. Outside them the course is readable but not joinable, and the Dates line tells you when the window is.

You are already on it

The panel disappears entirely once you are enrolled, because it is there to help you decide and says nothing useful afterwards. Check My Courses — if it is listed there, you are in.

Courses that open in stages

Some courses release their modules over time rather than all at once. If so, the course page says how long it runs — Released over 5 weeks, or a pair of dates for a group going through together. You can still enrol; you simply will not see all of it on the first day. See A course that opens in stages.
