Changing your email address or password

A new password
- Open your profile.
- Enter the new password twice.
- Save.
You stay signed in. Anywhere else you are signed in stays signed in too, so if you are changing it because somebody else may know it, sign out of the other places as well.
You do not have to have a password at all. If you would rather not keep one, use an emailed sign-in link instead — see Signing in with an emailed link.
A new email address
Your email address is your username. Changing it changes what you sign in with, from the moment you save.
So before you change it:
- Make sure the new address is one you can actually receive mail at. If you ever need a sign-in link, it goes there.
- Remember you are now signing in with the new one. This is the commonest reason somebody is locked out the week after changing it.
If the address is already in use
You will be told, and the change is refused. An address can belong to one account only.
Usually this means you have two accounts — an old one on the address you are trying to move to, and the one you are signed in as. Do not try to work around it by inventing a third address. Ask your site’s administrator to look at both: your courses and results are attached to whichever account did the work, and merging that properly is something they can see and you cannot.
What does not change
Your enrolments, your progress and your marks all belong to the account, not to the address. Changing either of these leaves every course exactly as it was.
