Using an invitation link

An invitation link is how somebody gives you a place on a course that is not open to the public — usually because your organisation has bought places on it.

It looks like an ordinary address with a long code on the end. Open it and it does the rest.

Using one

  1. Open the link you were sent.
  2. If you already have an account, sign in. If you do not, you can create one there and then — the link is what permits it.
  3. You are enrolled. There is nothing to pay: the place was bought for you.

The link may cover one course or several. If it covers several, you choose which.

The link, not the Enroll button

A course bought for you is almost always invitation-only, so there is no Enroll button on its page to use instead. The link is the way in. If you have found the course page by searching and it will not let you join, go back to the link.

If it does not work

“This invitation has expired”

Invitations can be given a date after which they stop working. Ask whoever sent it — they can issue another.

“No places left”

An invitation covers a set number of places and they are gone. Again, whoever sent it can see how many were used and add more.

It signs you in but you are not on the course

Check My Courses first — it may have worked. If it genuinely has not, tell whoever sent the link and include the address you signed in with, which is the first thing they will need.

Sharing it

An invitation link is not personal, but the places behind it are finite. Anybody who has the link can take one of the places, so passing it on uses them up. If somebody else needs a place, ask for one rather than forwarding yours.
