People on your site
Site Admin → People lists everybody with an account on your site, and is where you add and remove them.
Adding somebody
Enter their name and email address. The account is created and they can sign in.
An account on your site is not a course enrolment. Adding somebody here gives them a way in and nothing to do; putting them on a course is a separate step — see Adding someone to a course, which can also create the account in one go if they have none.
If the address already belongs to somebody, you are told. Take the existing person rather than making a second account: two accounts on one address is the commonest cause of “my courses have disappeared”, and it is much easier to avoid than to unpick.
Finding somebody
Search looks at name, email and username, and the list pages rather than loading everybody at once.
Removing somebody
This takes their access to your site away. It does not delete the person.
Grapevine runs many organisations’ sites on shared accounts, so the same address may be a learner on a site you have nothing to do with. Removing somebody from yours must not — and does not — reach any further than that.
What removal does:
- They can no longer sign in to your site.
- Anything that came with site access, including the ability to upload files, goes with it.
- Their work stays. Enrolments, answers and marks are kept, so adding them back restores everything.
You cannot remove your own access, which is deliberate — it is the one action here nobody else can undo for you.
