Importing course copies from a spreadsheet

Also in Resellers

The same idea as the enrolment importer, for a different job: a file saying which course goes to which site. It is how you set up a new customer with a dozen courses without doing it a dozen times.

The file

A CSV with a header row:

  • course — the course here, by slug or id.
  • site — the destination site, by address or id.
  • title — optional, a new name for the copy.

Check, then apply

As with enrolments, two separate steps. The check resolves every course and every destination and reports what it found, writing nothing.

Read it for two things especially:

  • Courses it could not find. A typo in a slug means that course is silently missing from the customer’s new site.
  • Sites it could not find. Same problem, bigger.

What arrives

Each copy is a complete course on the destination site — modules, lessons, content, questions, media — arriving inactive, so the receiving site reviews before anybody sees it.

The same rules as a single copy apply, including that fixed-date release schedules do not travel while relative ones do. See Copying a course.

It is not a sync

This copies, once. Running it again does not update the earlier copies — it makes new ones. A course copied to six sites is six independent courses from that moment on.

So treat it as setup rather than maintenance, and do it when the courses are finished rather than while they are still moving.

Who can run it

Site administrators, and only to sites they are entitled to copy into — your own, or a customer site belonging to you. You cannot push a course onto somebody else’s site by naming it in a file.
