Creating a customer site

From your own Site Admin, in the customers panel. You create the site, it belongs to you, and you can administer it.

Making it

  1. Open the customers panel in Site Admin.
  2. Give the new site an address and a name. The address is permanent; the name can change.
  3. Name their first administrator — their person, with their email address.
  4. Create it.

The site exists immediately, empty, with their administrator able to sign in.

The order that gets them a working site

An empty site is not much of a handover. Doing these four things before you tell them about it is the difference between a site and a chore:

  1. Copy their courses in. One at a time, or from a file if there are several — see Importing course copies from a spreadsheet. They arrive inactive.
  2. Make the courses active, so there is something to see.
  3. Set the name, logo and colour, or ask their administrator to. A site wearing your branding confuses their staff.
  4. Decide how their learners get on courses — do they add people by hand, or will you send invitations?

What to tell their administrator

Three things, because nothing emails them automatically:

  • The site address.
  • The email address you used for them, which is their username.
  • To sign in using Email me a link instead rather than looking for a password they were never given.

Point them at this help site as well — the Running a site guide is written for exactly their job.

Who pays for what

Grapevine bills you, not them, and what you charge them is your business. The thing to be clear about with them from the start is who pays for enrolments on their site — see Which site is billed for a course.

Removing a site

Deleting a customer site deletes their learners’ work along with it. If a relationship ends, make the courses inactive and leave the site in place until everybody agrees the records are no longer needed.
