Course bundles

Also in Site admins

A bundle is a named group of courses. Its purpose is to be sold or given as one thing: an invitation can cover a bundle rather than a single course, so somebody gets a place on all of them at once.

Making one

  1. In Site Admin, open the bundles panel.
  2. Name it — this is what a buyer sees, so name it for them rather than for your filing.
  3. Add a description if it needs one.
  4. Choose the courses it contains.
  5. Save.

A course can be in several bundles at once, and being in a bundle changes nothing about the course itself.

What a bundle is not

It is not a course. Nobody enrols on a bundle. Somebody given a bundle is enrolled on each of its courses separately, and their progress on each is separate.

It is not a price. A bundle has no price of its own; the price lives on the invitation that covers it. The same bundle can be sold at different prices to different customers.

It is not an order. The courses in a bundle are a set, not a sequence. If they are meant to be taken in order, say so in the course descriptions.

When the bundle changes

Adding a course to a bundle does not retrospectively enrol people who were given that bundle earlier. They got what the bundle contained at the time.

That is usually what you want — but it means a bundle is a snapshot as far as past invitations are concerned, and if you genuinely want to give everybody the new course, that is a second invitation.

When a course in it is switched off

Taking a course out of service while it is in a bundle leaves the bundle promising something nobody can open, and anybody holding an invitation for that bundle is covered for a course that will not run.

Grapevine warns you at the moment you change the course’s status, because by then the invitations are already out. The course stays in the bundle — an afternoon’s editing should not silently rewrite what was sold — so the decision about what to do is yours.

Where they are used

When you create an invitation, you choose whether it covers a single course or a bundle. See Invitations: selling places in advance.
